Metro’s Purple (D Line) Extension is a three-part rail project that will begin at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Western Avenue, extending westward for about 9 miles with seven new stations.
Project Description For the ticketing area, Francesco Simeti is creating a series of collaged images that will be translated into glass tiles. His design incorporates icons of Los Angeles architecture with flora from the surrounding area, including the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center campus and the UCLA Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden, creating a harmonious, monumental landscape. The design also includes original artworks by veterans created through a series of art mentorship workshops with the artist held at the the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center. This fictional utopian world brings humans and nature together and brings peace and calm into a space that can be busy with riders heading towards their destinations.
