Project Description
Featuring historical images from the Los Angeles Public Library’s Shades of L.A. archive, Bojagi (Shades of L.A.) weaves together photos of the diverse communities that have called Leimert Park home since 1920. Using the visual motif of quilting, the artist portrays the Korean tradition of “Bojagi” together with the colors and patterns used by Gee’s Bend quilters to create a composition blending East Asian and African-American cultural traditions. Woven together, Bojagi (Shades of L.A.) presents a gift of stitched-together memories for the Leimert Park community.
