Future, Artworks, Stations

Project Description

Victoria Fu and Matt Rich’s site-responsive design imagines the glass entryway as a prism-like object that will refract light and images down into the station. To create the artwork, the artists are using photographs they took of the neighborhood around the future station, filtering them through prisms in their studio, and then re-photographing those results. These site-specific photographs will appear in the artwork as vibrant shapes, colors, and effects collaged with painterly textures. Riders will be able to find hidden images of plants and architecture from the West LA VA Medical Center campus and nearby Wilshire Blvd integrated into the design.

Artist Statement

The connection to the immediate, local environment is embedded in the visual and spatial experience of the design by the subway riders as they move through the station. In this way, an immersive, living experience will engage riders in ever-evolving ways.
