Project Description
An imaginary, underwater dreamscape playfully intertwines jellyfish, sea vegetation and caves with iconic Long Beach landmarks, including the Astronaut Islands, El Dorado Nature Center and The Walter Pyramid at California State University, Long Beach.
Artist Statement
“It shows the diversity of local ecologies while evoking the beauty of Long Beach in a playful, fantastical, underwater cosmic dreamscape.”
About the Artist
CHRISTINE NGUYEN received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from California State University, Long Beach and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, Irvine. Solo exhibitions of her work have been featured at the Hammer Museum, Michael Kohn Gallery, Andrewshire Gallery and Sam Lee Gallery in Los Angeles, and 10 Chancery Lane Gallery in Hong Kong. Her work has also been included in group exhibitions at the Laguna Beach Art Museum, 4-F Gallery, Churner and Churner in New York, San Art in Vietnam, Kunsthalle zu Kiel and Sprüth Magers Projeckte in Germany and Dancing Elephants Project in Bogotá, Colombia.
About Through the Eyes of Artists
In the tradition of celebrating transportation through colorful travel destination posters, Metro Art commissions a diverse range of Los Angeles artists to create original artworks for the Through the Eyes of Artists poster series. Established in 2003, the posters are displayed onboard Metro trains and buses.
