Join Metro’s On the Move Riders Program for a “virtual” tour of Metro’s current art exhibition. and rider portrait series We Are… Portraits of Metro Riders by Local Artists. This On the Move Riders Program is organized in collaboration with AARP.

We’ll begin by learning more about Metro Art’s rider portrait series along with a virtual tour of the multi-site exhibition from Metro Art staff member Mayen Alcantara and then chat with contributing artist, Yolanda González, about her portrait in the exhibit.

About artist Yolanda González:

Southern California artist Yolanda González was born into a family of artists dating back to the 19th century. She studied at Art Center College of Design and is the recipient of several awards and artist residencies. Her paintings and ceramics have been exhibited throughout the world and included in many museum presentations across the United States, throughout Europe, and in South Africa. Among the many museums that have shown her work are the Armand Hammer Museum, The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, the Japanese American National Museum and the Diego Rivera Museum in México City. Throughout the years, González has taught at Inner City Arts, Para Los Ninos, Plaza de La Raza, Crenshaw Christian Center, MOCA and Alta Med.

About the We Are… exhibition and rider portrait series:

Celebrating the diversity of Los Angeles County and the community of transit riders, We Are… Portraits of Metro Riders by Local Artists features over 40 rider portraits presented throughout the Metro system and online. Each rider portrait has a story that is personal and universal, intimate and immediate—a single story among many, and each told by an artist with ties to neighborhoods served by Metro. We Are… is presented in collaboration with Metro’s Office of Civil Rights, Racial Equity & Inclusion and Communications departments.
