Grammy-nominated musician, emcee, singer, producer and drummer Kassa Overall will headline, with opening performances by multi-instrumentalist, composer and educator Isaiah Collier, and vocalist and performer Darynn Dean. KJazz DJ Rhonda Hamilton will host and serve as emcee.

On February 23, Metro Art Presents will host a free screening of Geoff McFetridge: Drawing a Life. in Union Station’s historic ticketing hall. The film is a poetic and intimate look into the life and work of one of the most visionary artists of his time, while also exploring the universal questions of what makes a fulfilling life.

Kicking off with a dynamic performance of a traditional lion dance by local students of the East Wind Foundation, the event continues with an exhibition walk-through led by Metro Art.
Union Station stands at the site of Los Angeles’ original Chinatown. This once vibrant community of families, businesses, and associations with roots going back to the middle of the 19th century was a place where residents persisted, grew rapidly, and thrived. Where You Stand: Chinatown 1880 to 1939 invites participants into the center of the vibrant community through a multi-dimensional experience. Installed in the Union Station Waiting Room Gallery, view the exhibits' historic photographs, listen to oral history recordings, and use augmented reality to see artifact materials superimposed within locations around Union Station. Audiences can explore the site’s historic layers, formerly a collection of alleyways, streets, and buildings, and home to thousands of Chinese residents in the late 19th to early 20th century Los Angeles.

While the Pacific Electric Railway’s Red Cars are one of the best-known fixtures of Los Angeles rail history, whose name evokes trolley trips to the beaches or mountains for Angeleno history buffs, the Yellow Cars of the Los Angeles Railway Corporation (or LARy) were equally important. Featuring materials sourced from the Metro Dorothy Peyton Gray Transportation Library and Archive, Metro Art’s exhibition in the Union Station Waiting Room Gallery, The Yellow Car and Los Angeles, offers a fond look back at two foundations of public transit in the region: the Yellow Cars and the transition to LA’s first years of bus service. Together, these early rail and bus lines shaped the Metro system we have today. Learn about the history of the Yellow Cars, how the system connected to Union Station, and the experience of this LA architectural landmark in its early years. Hosted at Los Angeles Union Station, MAPPING Performance: 10 Years of Metro Art Presents will celebrate with percussion-driven music and dance drawing from Southeast Asian and Afro-Brazilian traditions, bringing the community together in the heart of Los Angeles at the heart of the LA Metro transit system.
Day 2 – which will be highly participatory – will highlight Afro-Brazilian traditions, such as capoeira, which blends music, dance, and acrobatics, as well as samba-reggae.
