Kingdom Day is an experimental Super 8mm film that captures the spirit and people of South L.A.’s Black community during the annual Martin Luther King Day Parade. Featuring residents both participating and enjoying the parade, the compilation highlights the intergenerational camaraderie that contributes to the artist’s own experience of acceptance and belonging within the district. Kingdom Day acts as a timestamp for the area, depicting its geographical and socioeconomic ethos and the celebratory tradition that engulfs its legacy.
About the Artist
RUSSELL HAMILTON is a Jamaican-American multidisciplinary artist from Atlanta, GA. His creative practice permeates ethnology & sociology throughout the diaspora. Photography & filmmaking are the vehicles for his framework with a focus on archival & analog production.
