Project Description
Bloom draws inspiration from the lush gardens cared for by the artist’s neighbors in Leimert Park and celebrates the growth of a new generation of youth in the community. Through a combination of live-action video and photo collage animation, Bloom presents an overhead view of a growing neighborhood crafted by the hands of local elementary school-aged children. As the space transforms, images and objects placed by the children come to life, evolving into a beautiful garden that weaves real-life, local elements with childhood play.
About the Artist
JULIE ORSER‘s multimedia practice merges art and cinema, using video, animation, and photography from a feminist perspective to challenge mainstream media, encouraging audiences to explore alternative forms of engagement.
