• We Are… Portrait Activation

    Join us to create a unique representation of your image inspired by LACMA’s Black American Portraits, an exhibition that reframes portraiture to center Black American subjects, sitters, and spaces, and Metro Art’s We Are… Portraits of Metro Riders by Local Artists, a multi-site exhibition featuring transit riders throughout L.A. County that presents personal and universal stories and invites broad public participation. Guests will be invited to create their own portraits using artistic techniques inspired by the process of artists in the LACMA and LA Metro exhibitions. Artist Chelle Barbour, whose work is featured in both exhibitions, will facilitate the workshop. Co-presented in partnership with LACMA. Health screening required.     Join Metro Art-commissioned artist Ken Gonzales-Day and LACMA curators Eve Schillo, Associate Curator of the Wallis Annenberg Photography Department, and Rita Gonzalez, Terri and Michael Smooke Curator and Department Head of Contemporary Art, as they delve into Gonzales-Day's latest artwork, Urban Excavation: Ancestors, Avatars, Bodhisattvas, Buddhas, Sages, Spirits, Symbols, and Other Objects. This site-specific installation, in process for the future Metro Wilshire/Fairfax station, draws inspiration from LACMA's extensive permanent collection. Learn about the collaborative relationship between Gonzales-Day, LACMA, and Metro in creating a new public artwork for the Los Angeles County transit system in this enlightening conversation.
