  • Silver Linings

    Metro Fleet

    In the spirit of promoting and highlighting uplifting messages about connecting with and caring for one another during challenging times and beyond, Metro is piloting a new series, Silver Linings. Local artists are commissioned to create original artworks that visualize and encourage expressions of connection and care. Artworks created for the series will be reproduced for display in Metro's transportation system to serve as reminders that acts of care, however large or small, are also essential and can be the silver lining on tough days. These new artworks will be on display as posters in Metro buses from December 2020 through July 2021.

    This immersive soundscape by LA-based composer and multi-instrumentalist Nailah Hunter invites Metro riders into a sonic landscape and shimmering space for restoration and healing: in ourselves and for each other. It is available for free download and streaming through April 26.

    Broken News Through October 29 Union Station Historic Waiting Room As part of public programming to recognize the 150th Anniversary of the Chinese Massacre of 1871 in downtown Los Angeles, the Chinese American Museum, Chinese Historical Society of Southern California and Metro Art are co-presenting an exhibition titled Broken News in Union Station through October 29. A project by Adit Dhanushkodi, Broken News portrays the deeply troubling vein of anti-Chinese sentiment in the popular press – as relevant today as it was in 1871. The exhibition incorporates four original primary source newspaper headlines. For the purposes of the exhibition, Dhanuskodi also created two designed newspaper front pages to summarize the complete story, creating the composite from original primary sources.     On the Move Riders Program and Metro Art Presents are proud to bring you their latest installment of Raised on Records, a holiday edition, as we welcome back an annual tradition through this livestreamed virtual concert event.   • Crenshaw/LAX High School Neighborhood Art Contest

    Calling artistic and creative in South LA high school students grades 9-12 with roots in the Crenshaw District, Inglewood, Westchester, the LAX Community and vicinity.  LA Metro is seeking eight students to create eight artworks that celebrates the communities along the route of Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project. Selected artists will receive $500 and their artwork will be transformed into a commemorative pin distributed free of charge to the public at the opening of each new Crenshaw/LAX Transit Line station.

  • We Are… Portrait Activation

    Join us to create a unique representation of your image inspired by LACMA’s Black American Portraits, an exhibition that reframes portraiture to center Black American subjects, sitters, and spaces, and Metro Art’s We Are… Portraits of Metro Riders by Local Artists, a multi-site exhibition featuring transit riders throughout L.A. County that presents personal and universal stories and invites broad public participation. Guests will be invited to create their own portraits using artistic techniques inspired by the process of artists in the LACMA and LA Metro exhibitions. Artist Chelle Barbour, whose work is featured in both exhibitions, will facilitate the workshop. Co-presented in partnership with LACMA. Health screening required.
