Project Description
Mendoza designed colorful and dynamic ceramic work as the finish of the columns on the lower level of Firestone Station where passengers make bus/rail connections. The imagery chosen by the artist incorporates larger than life figures that appear to hold up the railway. The hand painted ceramic tile, both flat and relief, gives the columns a precious and unique look that transforms a predominantly concrete environment into one of inspiration and landmark quality.
Artist Statement
“Perseverance, contributing and working together, and an allegorical treatment of journey are our links to neighborhoods. I want the work to resonate optimism, bringing color with content in the day-to-day struggle of making ends meet.”
