On the Street: Urban Sketching with Sandow Birk (In-Person)

Join Metro-commissioned artist and urban sketcher Sandow Birk for a three-hour sketching workshop on the streets of Westwood. Birk will draw and discuss sketching in the urban environment and how this process informs the design of his artwork for the future Westwood/VA Hospital Metro Station. See some of the local sights and landmarks Sandow is including in this site-specific artwork. Materials will be provided. This class is outdoors, requires walking throughout the neighborhood, and is subject to weather.

The Yellow Car and Los Angeles, an original exhibition organized by Metro Art and featuring materials sourced from Metro's Dorothy Peyton Gray Transportation Library and Archive, highlights the Yellow Cars of Los Angeles Railway Corporation (or LARy, for short) and LA’s early buses to offer a fond look back at Los Angeles transit history. Together, these early rail and bus lines are the foundations which shaped the transit system Metro is restoring today.
