Visionary conveys the invaluable time afforded by public transit to contemplate the past and present, and envision the future. The Vision Theatre, in the background of this self-portrait, pays homage to Leimert Park and an inspirational period in the artist’s development.

About the Artist

CHRISTEN AUSTIN‘s figurative paintings and drawings illustrate the universality and beauty of Black culture. The self-taught artist earned an AA from Pasadena City College  and BS from Cal Poly Pomona. She is the recipient of a number of awards, and her work has been exhibited in local galleries.
