About this event
The Theater of Architecture: Meet the Artist, Todd Gray
Join Metro Art-commissioned artist Todd Gray for an engaging panel discussion on his artwork design –– Mining the Archive: S. Charles Lee, Architect –– for the future Wilshire/La Cienega Station, part of the D Line Subway Extension Project. Gray will be in conversation with Los Angeles-based architects Sarah Lorenzen and Peter Tolkin of TOLO Architecture.
The panel will explore how the rich cultural and architectural history of the Wilshire Corridor is reflected in Gray’s design, which incorporates archival architectural drawings and historic photographs of the Saban Theatre (formerly the Fox Wilshire Theatre). This iconic Art Deco building, designed by S. Charles Lee, stands directly across from the station site. Lorenzen and Tolkin will also showcase other notable buildings from the area, illustrating how architecture helps shape a neighborhood’s identity.
About the Panelists:
- Todd Gray is one of 27 artists creating site-specific artworks for the D Line Subway Extension Project. Spanning photography, performance, and sculpture, his work is featured in museum collections around the world.
- Sarah Lorenzen is a professor of architecture at Cal Poly Pomona and a principal at TOLO Architecture.
- Peter Tolkin is a principal of TOLO Architecture and a registered architect.
