Times Studio-backed film alongside Ben Proudfoot\, which originally premiered at Telluride in 2023 and spotlights some of the individuals working at a repair shop in Los Angeles\, the last American city to provide freely repaired instruments to its public school students.  \nIn 2020\, Bowers co-directed the Academy Award-nominated documentary short film\, A Concerto is a Conversation with Proudfoot. The film\, a New York Times Op-Doc\, was executive produced by Ava DuVernay and premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival. Together\, we will return to Union Station from Expo Park via the Metro E and B Lines. The film runs 1 hour and 35 minutes\,  following the opening performances by the poets and Austin Antoine. \n  \n \n\nAbout SUMMERTIME\nConceived by filmmaker/director Carlos López Estrada in collaboration with young poets from Get Lit: Words Ignite\, SUMMERTIME takes place over the course of an imagined hot summer day as the lives of 27 young Angelenos intersect to weave in and out of each other’s stories. The director’s ground-breaking vision began at a poetry showcase where performers from across the City of Angels recited fearlessly personal texts about themselves\, their communities\, and their relationship to their city. The project was then developed around their individual poems and interwoven into a larger\, unified\, and gloriously moving narrative experiment — part contemporary musical and part sociological art. SUMMERTIME explores themes of identity\, community\, and intersectionality through the unique perspectives of this diverse ensemble and debuted at Sundance 2020 before its theatrical release in summer 2021. \nAbout Get Lit – Words Ignite\nGet Lit – Words Ignite fuses classic and spoken word poetry to increase teen literacy on the page and in visual media\, and cultivates enthusiastic learners emboldened to inspire social consciousness in diverse communities. Concert begins 8:30 pm. \n\nMetro Art Presents Dorian Wood: XAVELA LUX AETERNA\, a chamber orchestra tribute to legendary Costa Rican and Mexican singer Chavela Vargas (1919-2012). In this live performance of XAVELA LUX AETERNA\, Dorian Wood will be accompanied by Isaura String Quartet and guitarist Michael Corwin. \nDorian Wood is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Los Angeles whose subject matter is informed by her own perspective as a genderfluid brown person\, a child of Costa Rican and Nicaraguan immigrants and an autodidact. \nXAVELA LUX AETERNA toured internationally in 2019-20. The concert\, originally scheduled for May 2020\, will take place in Union Station’s historic Ticketing Hall. \n\n\nRSVP to Save the Date via Eventbrite \n\nThe event is first come first served. Wood has performed at institutions\, venues and festivals locally and internationally including The Broad\, REDCAT\, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions\, and Pacific Standard Time in Los Angeles as well extensively internationally in Spain at Museo Nacional Del Prado\, World Pride\, Festival Cruilla and the City Hall of Madrid\, and in Mexico City and Germany. Wood has released over a dozen recordings and is a recipient of the Creative Capital Award\, an Art Matters Foundation grant\, and the Loghaven Artist Residency in Tennessee. From 2019 to 2020\, Wood completed several successful international tours with their chamber orchestra tribute to Chavela Vargas\, XAVELA LUX AETERNA.
