From its bustling shopping districts to the scenic bike trails that weave through lush parks, this poster reflects the dynamic mix of urban energy and natural beauty that locals love. Imagine catching a show at one of the performing arts centers, then discovering an underground arts gallery filled with hidden gems.

This artwork was commissioned for Metro’s Through the Eyes of Artists poster series for display in the fleet.

Artist Statement

“My goal in creating this artwork was to connect the dots between urban/suburban, entertainment/education, and nature/retail, while also including the everyday people that call this neighborhood home.”

About the Artist

SARAH STONE is a contemporary pop-folk narrative painter, assemblage artist and muralist. Her colorful, stylized and often allegorical artworks prompt contemplation about the beauty of nature, the sometimes-humorous details of human living and the challenges of coexisting with other lives on our planet. Her inspirations are rooted in biological studies, dream imagery, ancestral mythologies and folk/outsider arts. She has designed sets for the film industry, murals for movies and local communities, and built fantasy props for film and theatrical productions, experiences which laid the groundwork for her current multi-disciplinary art practice. Her work is exhibited in galleries and museums from Seattle to San Diego. Her studio is in a wildish canyon in the foothills of the Santa Susana Mountains where local wildlife provides daily inspiration.

About Through the Eyes of Artists

In the tradition of celebrating transportation through colorful travel destination posters, Metro Art commissions a diverse range of Los Angeles artists to create original artworks for the Through the Eyes of Artists poster series. Established in 2003, the posters are displayed onboard Metro trains and buses.
