Learn about station artworks located in the L Line (Gold) portal and Union Station East\, and check out the current exhibition in the Union Station Passageway Art Gallery. \nRail safety and rider tips will also be provided by Metro staff. \nEach tour will feature the same program\, so choose the date that best works for you! \nTwo date options are available: \n\nTuesday\, June 7th from 10-11am\nThursday\, June 23rd from 10-11am (Sold Out)\n\nRSVP is Required.\n* Reservations are required. Registration will close 24 hours in advance of the tour. \nSign up for our Arts and Cultural Events email list to be informed about more upcoming Union Station art tours and other Metro Art news.  \nGeneral Information\n\nMetro Art tours are approximately 90% walking; there are elevators and escalators at Union Station. \nDocents use voice amplifiers in the station to support auditory experience within a public space and wear bright orange safety vests for easy identification. \nThere are public restrooms available at Union Station. \n\nPlease click here for more information about our Art Tours.\n

DESCRIPTION:Explore Metro Art\, Explore LA! \nMetro Art is excited to announce the return of our in-person award-winning tours! The free tours cover the art and architecture of Union Station and welcome visitors to spaces generally not open to the public. All tours are led by trained Metro Art Docent Council volunteers and provide insights into the artworks\, artists and art-making processes. Rail safety and rider tips will also be provided by Metro staff.  \nJoin us in the month of May for special activities tailored to our older adult riders in observance of Older Americans Month.  In collaboration with Metro’s On the Move Riders Program\, we invite you on an in-person art and architectural tour of Union Station on Wednesday\, May 25\, 2022 from 10-11am. \nPlease RSVP here.\n* Reservations are required. Registration will close 24 hours in advance of the tour. \nSign up for our Arts and Cultural Events email list to be informed about more upcoming Union Station art tours and other Metro Art news.  \nGeneral Information\n\nMetro Art tours are approximately 90% walking; there are elevators and escalators at Union Station. \nThe Docents distribute TAP cards that are pre-loaded with an all-day pass allowing tour participants to ride the Metro Rail & Bus system for free. DESCRIPTION:Join Metro’s On the Move Riders Program for a “virtual” tour of Metro’s current art exhibition. and rider portrait series We Are… Portraits of Metro Riders by Local Artists. This On the Move Riders Program is organized in collaboration with AARP. \nWe’ll begin by learning more about Metro Art’s rider portrait series along with a virtual tour of the multi-site exhibition from Metro Art staff member Mayen Alcantara and then chat with contributing artist\, Yolanda González\, about her portrait in the exhibit. \nTo RSVP to the event and receive the access information\, click here. \nTo view the online gallery and to learn more about We Are…\, click here. \nAbout artist Yolanda González: \nSouthern California artist Yolanda González was born into a family of artists dating back to the 19th century. She studied at Art Center College of Design and is the recipient of several awards and artist residencies. Her paintings and ceramics have been exhibited throughout the world and included in many museum presentations across the United States\, throughout Europe\, and in South Africa. Among the many museums that have shown her work are the Armand Hammer Museum\, The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA\, the Japanese American National Museum and the Diego Rivera Museum in México City. Throughout the years\, González has taught at Inner City Arts\, Para Los Ninos\, Plaza de La Raza\, Crenshaw Christian Center\, MOCA and Alta Med. \nAbout the We Are… exhibition and rider portrait series: \nCelebrating the diversity of Los Angeles County and the community of transit riders\, We Are… Portraits of Metro Riders by Local Artists features over 40 rider portraits presented throughout the Metro system and online. Each rider portrait has a story that is personal and universal\, intimate and immediate—a single story among many\, and each told by an artist with ties to neighborhoods served by Metro. We Are… is presented in collaboration with Metro’s Office of Civil Rights\, Racial Equity & Inclusion and Communications departments.

Join a fun watch party hosted by On the Move Riders Program on Zoom to take part in a mini-dance lesson in your own home led by Adolfo and Cat\, then enjoy the rockabilly and Western Swing with Deke Dickerson and the Whippersnappers.  The concert and performance will also be accessible via Union Station’s YouTube Channel. \nRSVP on Eventbrite. \nDeke Dickerson and the Whippersnappers. Dickerson has been carrying the torch since he was 13\, playing in his first rockabilly band in his hometown of Columbia\, Missouri. He moved to Los Angeles at the age of 22 and proceeded to found his primary band\, Deke Dickerson and the Ecco-Fonics\, his newest group\, Deke Dickerson and the Whippersnappers\, as well as several side projects. Dickerson has provided rootsy music for a slew of television shows and movie projects and has his own signature guitar\, manufactured by the Hallmark Guitar Company of Maryland. \n\n  \n\nCat and Adolfo of Time 2 Swing \n\nAdolfo and Cat\nIG: @time2swing\nFB: https://www.facebook.com/time2swing  \nHusband and wife dance duo Adolfo and Cat of time2swing\, are a hobby turned passion! They have been avidly dancing since 2013. When they met in high school\, playing various sports\, they never considered themselves dancers and never paid attention to the dance floor. In late 2012\, however\, Adolfo and Cat saw couples dancing Swing and Lindy Hop at Disneyland and immediately exclaimed they wanted to learn “how they did that!” (their actual words) They have been trained in various dances\, such as Latin and Ballroom\, too.
