The open-to-all concert will take place Saturday\, May 2\, 2026 from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM\, with doors opening at 6:30 PM. The evening will feature a lineup of live roots and bluegrass performances led by Watkins Family Hour\, with supporting sets from Sunny War and Crying Uncle Bluegrass Band\, bringing together a beautiful night of music and community. \nThis event is free for all ages and open to the public. RSVP to learn more. Tickets are recommended\, but not required and seating will be available on a first-come\, first-served basis. Known for her far reaching vinyl collection\, listen as she delicately guilds together many lost treasures and shares music from lesser known and under-represented musical traditions from across the globe and decades. \n  \n \nOne of the original turntablists\, J. Rocc founded the Beat Junkies in 1992 with Melo-D and Rhettmatic\, but has done just as much on his own as in a group setting. He began DJing in the mid-’80s with a California group named PSK. Soon after forming\, the Beat Junkies became a seminal force in the rise of instrumental hip-hop\, including core member Babu plus future stars Shortkut and D-Styles. In addition to numerous mixtapes and his own production for Stones Throw releases\, J. Rocc has been the DJ for Madlib’s live shows since the early 2000’s\, was the 3rd member of Jaylib (Madlib & J Dilla) during the group’s live events\, and collaborated with Madlib on Beat Konducta Vol. 5-6: A Tribute to J Dilla. Watch the Academy Award®-winning documentary short about L.A.’s craftspeople who keep the city’s music alive. \n \nOnce commonplace in the United States\, today Los Angeles is by far the largest and one of the last American cities to provide free and freely repaired musical instruments to its public schoolchildren\, a continuous service since 1959.  \nFrom Academy Award®-winning directing duo Kris Bowers and Ben Proudfoot\, The Last Repair Shop grants an all access pass to the nondescript downtown warehouse where a dwindling handful of devoted craftspeople keep over 80\,000 student instruments in good repair. \nWitness the profound life stories of four staff master craftspeople as well as the students whose lives have been transformed by their instrument. In the repair people’s stories\, music has been the continuous thread that has mended their hearts and brought them to where they are now — fixing broken instruments to get them back into the longing hands of Los Angeles’ public school youth. \n> Watch trailer\n\n  \nKRIS BOWERS is an Academy Award-winning filmmaker and an award-winning composer. His most recent film\, The Last Repair Shop\, won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Film and won the award for short documentary at the Critics Choice Documentary Awards. Bowers co-directed the Searchlight Pictures and L.A. Times Studio-backed film alongside Ben Proudfoot\, which originally premiered at Telluride in 2023 and spotlights some of the individuals working at a repair shop in Los Angeles\, the last American city to provide freely repaired instruments to its public school students.  \nIn 2020\, Bowers co-directed the Academy Award-nominated documentary short film\, A Concerto is a Conversation with Proudfoot. The film\, a New York Times Op-Doc\, was executive produced by Ava DuVernay and premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival. This site-specific installation\, in process for the future Metro Wilshire/Fairfax station\, draws inspiration from LACMA’s extensive permanent collection. Learn about the collaborative relationship between Gonzales-Day\, LACMA\, and Metro in creating a new public artwork for the Los Angeles County transit system in this enlightening conversation. \n> Learn more + RSVP\n  \n \n  \nKEN GONZALES-DAY’s interdisciplinary and conceptually grounded projects consider the history of photography\, the construction of race\, and the limits of representational systems\, from lynching photography to museum displays. Admission to this event is free. \nJoin Metro Art for a panel discussion with artist Eloy Torrez and veterans featured in his artwork in process\, Five Veterans’ Stories\, for the future Metro station at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center. \nThe artist will share a video by Juliane Backmann documenting his interviews with the veterans in his artwork about their pre-military\, military and post-military lives\, highlighting their experiences during service as well as their individual life stories and creative passions. The veterans will then join the artist for a panel discussion on the importance of representing a wide array of veteran experiences\, including those of female veterans and veterans of color. They will also discuss how their military backgrounds have shaped their reintegration into civilian life and influenced their professions\, creative projects\, and other activities. \nThe panel will be moderated by filmmaker Mobolaji Olambiwonnu of Dreamseeker Media. \nA Q&A will follow the panel discussion. \nEloy Torrez is one of 27 artists/artist teams creating site-responsive\, architecturally integrated artworks for the D Line Subway Extension Project. \nGetting there\nGo Metro\nParking info: Free\, limited parking is available behind Patriotic Hall on Lebanon Street.
