Presenting…The First Ever Metro Art Bus!
The Metro Art Bus brings art to the streets and to Metro riders of all ages, as well as passersby, in a unique and unexpected way. Metro Art’s Rider Portrait Series and the current exhibition, We Are…Portraits of Metro Riders by Local Artists, is a bright and uplifting visual intervention that honors the personal stories of Metro riders.
A vehicle for art, culture and transportation
The Metro Art Bus is an immersive experience from street to seat with 16 large-scale portraits of Metro riders on the exterior of the bus and 41 art cards lining the interior of the bus. This new program provides direct encounters with art as it transports Metro’s broadest base of transit riders 1 and connects neighborhoods across Los Angeles County.
1 #ICYMI: Bus riders are 75% of Metro's overall ridership.
Three Metro Art Buses are rolling out to you this summer…. as part of Metro Art’s multi-site exhibition, We Are…
Metro Art worked with 22 community curatorial advisors to develop the rider portrait series, which features approximately 60 Metro riders in portraits created by 41 local artists. Select portraits on the Metro Art Bus are also currently featured on Art on TAP cards, in the Union Station Passageway Art Gallery, and viewable on digital displays at each of the A Line (Blue) stations.
