Project Description

Ramirez’s depicts Pico Rivera with palm trees in silhouette against a glowing sunset sky. A native of the area, the artist has fond boyhood memories of uncomplicated adventure, when the horizon was wide and anything was possible.

Artist Statement

“Whittier Boulevard, Route 72, is one of the main vehicular arteries running through the city of Pico Rivera.  Ramirez, who makes his studio in this city, has fond boyhood memories of eating, shopping and going to the movies on the Boulevard.”

About the Artist

RAMON RAMIREZ received a Master of Arts, Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. He has exhibited at institutions such as Aedas LA Gallery in Los Angeles, Southwest Museum-Autry National Center in Los Angeles and the Latino Museum in Pomona, CA.

About Through the Eyes of Artists

In the tradition of celebrating transportation through colorful travel destination posters, Metro Art commissions a diverse range of Los Angeles artists to create original artworks for the Through the Eyes of Artists poster series. Established in 2003, the posters are displayed onboard Metro trains and buses.
