Project Description
Nature trails, train tracks, map fragments and names of local landmarks are nestled along sun-kissed mountain peaks and natural wonder that this independent, creative community in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains offers.
Artist Statement
“The main graphic element speaks to the mountains above Altadena, which are a touchstone, source of pride and recreational resource for the town.”
About the Artist
LEAH KNECHT (b. 1960, Los Angeles) was raised and resides in Pasadena, California, where the surrounding cityscape has served as a source of inspiration. Often addressing transformation, gentrification and throwaway culture, her two- and three-dimensional painted assemblages have been exhibited in galleries throughout the Los Angeles region. Knecht earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration from Art Center College of Design and an associate degree from Pasadena City College. She is a member of the Arroyo Arts Collective, Pasadena Society of Artists and Women’s Art Circle.
About Through the Eyes of Artists
In the tradition of celebrating transportation through colorful travel destination posters, Metro Art commissions a diverse range of Los Angeles artists to create original artworks for the Through the Eyes of Artists poster series. Established in 2003, the posters are displayed onboard Metro trains and buses.
