Beautiful Santa Monica portrays the artist’s children—who not only ride Metro to school from Santa Monica but also to cultural events and museums in downtown Los Angeles—surrounded by the natural bounty that their beloved city has to offer.

About the Artist

SHEILA KARBASSIAN‘s move from California to Iran in her youth during the Iran-Iraq War deeply influenced her visual vocabulary. Based in Santa Monica, she uses mixed-media collage to explore the confluence of modernity, tradition and self-identity. Karbassian earned a BA in Communication Arts from the Azad University Tehran and MA in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica.
